A new era
For the past twelve years, the Gateway Theatre has flourished under the inspired leadership of Simon Johnston. Now Simon has passed the torch to us and we are excited to be leading one of the province’s most celebrated theatres in one of its most dynamic cities.
Our mission for the Gateway remains the same as always. The Gateway will continue to be a leader in the cultural life of our city. We will continue to welcome all of Richmond through our doors. We will continue to celebrate our rich cultural diversity. And, as always, we will provide the City of Richmond with theatre of the highest calibre.
The Gateway is the cultural heart of Richmond. Here you can see some of Canada’s most talented actors and designers working under the same roof as local community arts organizations. On one night, you might see a beloved Broadway musical. On another, you might see a community Cantonese opera. And on another, you might see your children on our stage with their school band. The same diversity that makes Richmond such a great place to live is very present in our programming.
These days, we read about arts organizations struggling across the country. We are very fortunate that the City of Richmond has a theatre company that is thriving in these challenging times. Many people have contributed to our success: the gifted artists who work so tirelessly on our productions; our dedicated staff; our civic leaders who recognize that the arts enrich our community; our generous sponsors and donors; and the best volunteers in the Lower Mainland. Finally, we’d like to thank you for supporting live theatre. Your support is what made this theatre what it is today. It is what will keep it flourishing in the years to come.
