I Know What I Did This Summer

I can’t believe how quickly the summer has flown by. I also can’t believe how remiss I’ve been in posting to our blog.

They tell me that summer is ‘down time’ for a theatre. It certainly hasn’t felt that way from my perspective. We’ve all been busy preparing for our wonderful upcoming season; planning for the 2013-2014 season (yes, planning begins this early!); and dreaming of what the Gateway could look like five, ten, and fifteen years from now (more on this to come).

I’ve also had the privilege of meeting many wonderful friends of the Gateway. For the past three months, I’ve been introduced to dozens of patrons, community leaders, and theatre-lovers at Rotary lunches, volunteer socials, and fundraising dinners.

With all that eating, some of you are probably wondering how I’ve fared on my Summer Slimdown Challenge. Well, I’ve got both good and bad news. The bad news is that I didn’t quite reach my goal of losing twenty pounds. The good news is that I did manage to lose fifteen pounds over the past three months.

More importantly, I’m on the path to a heathier lifestyle. This challenge is just the beginning of a longer journey towards wellness. I feel better and I’m quite determined to keep progressing in the months to come.

For those keeping tab, the total amount raised for the Gateway Theatre is $860. Thank you everyone who made a pledge. Your generous support of the Gateway could translate into: (a) supporting an extra writer for SceneFirst; (b) subsidizing Academy tuition for two or three children; (c) bringing a guest artist in from out-of-town. If you didn’t make a pledge and wish you had, it’s never too late to support the Gateway. Just click on this link to show your support for the performing arts in our community.

So tomorrow, I’m off to Hong Kong to work on a very special production of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. I promise you that I will be posting regularly (i.e. not every three months) from HK.

Have a safe and happy Labour Day Weekend!
